ORRI Principles
How SYFERS applies the 10 principles of Open and Responsible Research and Innovation.
SYFERS is structured around the ORRI framework developed by the REINFORCING project (Horizon Europe, grant 101094435). Each principle maps to a folder in the repository. The data registered in the SYFERS app provides the practice that supports each principle.
Principle 01
Inclusive governance
01-governance/Transparency, participation, and accountability in how decisions are made. At Sulitânia: consent-based assemblies held monthly, all decisions logged, governance formats published openly so others can adapt them.
Principle 02
Societal goals
02-ecology/ 03-social/ 04-economy/Research and innovation oriented toward social and environmental benefit. At Sulitânia: regenerative agriculture, biodiversity restoration, community energy, and cooperative economics, all documented and measured.
Principle 03
Multi-stakeholder engagement
03-social/stakeholders/The quadruple helix: research, civil society, industry, and government working around a shared site. At Sulitânia: three actors are present. The fourth, formal institutional partnership, is the next step.
Principle 04
Anticipation and reflexivity
09-learning/quarterly-reflections/Thinking ahead about consequences and reflecting honestly on what happened. At Sulitânia: quarterly reflections generated from actual registered data, guided by ecological and syntropic principles.
Principle 05
Addressing market deficits

Principle 06
Broadening representation
03-social/onboarding/Including voices that are typically excluded from research and innovation. At Sulitânia: 16 members from five nationalities, documented onboarding process, open volunteer programme, and multilingual public documentation.
Principle 07
Monitoring and accountability

Principle 08
Experimental approach

Principle 09
Ethics and integrity

Principle 10
Science education and citizenship
03-social/education/Building public understanding and enabling participation in knowledge. At Sulitânia: workshops on agroforestry, soil microbiology, natural building, and cooperative governance, documented and openly shared.
